(Genesis 10:8-10, 11:1-9)

"And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth. He was a mighty hunter before the LORD: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the LORD. And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar." (Genesis 10:8-10)

"And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter. And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth." (Genesis 11:1-4)

"And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech." (Genesis 11:5-7)

"So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth." (Genesis 11:8-9)

Nimrod was Noah's great, great grandson. After the Flood Noah’s son, Ham had a son named Cush, and his son was Nimrod. Nimrod attempted to unite mankind into a World Empire. His kingdom is the first mentioned in the Bible, and he was the first to attempt to take God's place after the Great Flood. Nimrod’s very name means, "rebellion" (Strong's Hebrew Dictionary #5248). Nimrod led the rebellion against God at the Tower of Babel.

Elsewhere in the Bible the word “before” in Genesis 10:9 where it says, "the mighty hunter before the LORD" is translated "face" and "against" (Strong's Hebrew Dictionary #6440). Nimrod was a "mighty hunter" against God and in His face just as the future Antichrist will be (Daniel 7:25; Revelation 13:6). Therefore, to be “before the LORD” in this way is to be “antichrist” (2 John 7). God is intensely interested in the salvation of men, but contrariwise Nimrod desired the worship of men and wished to take the place of the Almighty.

J. Vernon McGee wrote, “[Nimrod] wanted to become the ruler of a great world empire, and he attempted to do it ... [Nimrod tried] to bring together the human race after the Flood in an effort to get them united into a nation of which he could become the great world ruler. He was the rebel, the founder of Babel, the hunter of the souls of men. He was the lawless one, and he is the shadow or a type of the last world ruler, the Antichrist who is yet to appear.” (McGee, J. Vernon, Through the Bible, 1981, p. 51)

Dr. Henry M. Morris wrote, “Nimrod ... soon had all the Hamites, and possibly many of the Shemites and Japhethits, under his influence and leadership. ... Nimrod became a ‘mighty tyrant in the face of Jehovah. He was a 'hunter’ in the since that he was implacable in searching out and persuading men to obey his will.” (Morris, Henry M., The Genesis Record, Grand Rapids, MI: Baker Books 1976, pp. 251-252)

One way that Nimrod persuaded people was through religion. That is what the Tower of Babel was all about. Nimrod and his followers willingly left the knowledge of the one true God and Creator, and established a false religion which evolved into “Mystery Babylon” (Revelation 17:5). Nimrod’s religion led to astrology, spirit worship, pantheism, polytheism, idolatry, reincarnation, the occult and Gnosticism. A religious system grew up around Nimrod after his death that he had been reincarnated through an immaculate conception through the womb of his wife, Semiramis, who became known as “the Queen of Heaven” (Jeremiah 7:18, 44:17-19, 25). Her son’s name was “Tammuz” (Ezekiel 8:13-14). Nimrod also became known as the chief god of the Babylonians, “Merodach” (Jeremiah 50:1-2), and by many other names in India, China, Egypt, Greece, Rome, and other nations.

"Satan is notoriously a corrupter, rather than an innovator. Hence it is probable that the system of paganism, with its astrological emblems and complex mythology and mysteries, represents a primeval distortion of God’s true revelation concerning His creation and promised redemption of the universe. Thus, ... the subsequent system of astrology is a gross corruption of the original evangelical significance of the heavenly bodies, created originally to serve in part for 'signs and seasons.' In any case, as they were interpreted by Nimrod and his followers, they soon led not only to astrology but also to spiritism and all the other evils of paganism and idolatry." (Morris, Henry M., The Genesis Record) “The first Bible reference to astrology is ... the story of the building of the tower of Babel (Genesis 11:1-9). Archaeologists have now discovered that this structure and similar towers were ... erected to survey the heavens. Some [of these towers] have been unearthed to give evidence of zodiac signs actually inscribed on the circumference at the top. The Bible says the purpose of the tower of Babel was to ‘reach unto heaven.’ This [is a] Biblical metaphor ... There is little doubt [that] its … purpose was to survey the stars for astrological purposes.” (Larson, Bob, Larson’s Book of Cults, Tyndale House, Wheaton, IL, 1982, pp. 257, 258.)

"He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names." (Psalms 147:4)

Here are the names of some of the brightest stars and their meanings:

* Sirius - The Prince (Isaiah 9:6)

"Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion? Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons? Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth?" (Job 38:31-33)

The 12 signs of the mazzaroth (Zodiac) with their meanings, and the true message they convey (Job 38:32):

Surely God taught Adam and Eve the meanings of the names of the stars and mazzaroth before they fell into sin. And surely this knowledge was passed on Noah and to the post Flood world. But Nimrod corrupted the truth of God in the stars into a lie.

“All over Eurasia and America, astronomers and perhistorians have identified stone constructions as observatories and megalithic calendars. If this is true, it is almost certain that astronomy [better put astrology] was used within the frame of religious and ceremonial interest.” (Beaver, R. Pierce, et al, Eerdmans’ Handbook to the World’s Religions, Eerdmans Publishing, Grand Rapids, MI, 1982 p. 28.) "Many large structures of antiquity (the pyramids, Stonehenge, the Mesopotamian ziggurats which apparently copied the original Tower of Babel, among others) indicate that ancient men possessed remarkable engineering and construction capabilities." (Morris, Henry M., The Genesis Record)

“[The] original Babylonian religious system served as the source of all the world’s non-Christian religions ..., but it has also infiltrated and corrupted Christendom to an alarming degree.” (Morris, Henry M., The Genesis Record, 1976, p. 265)

"MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT" (Revelation 17:5) is Roman Catholicism which has it's roots in Gnosticism. However, it lives on not only in Catholicism and in world religions, but also in secret organizations such as the Rosicrucian Order, Freemasonry, Order of Skull & Bones, the Club of Rome, the United Nations, etc., etc.

Mystery Babylon’s false doctrines are corrupting even true believers today! The satanic purpose of Catholicism and the New World Order is to unite the World in one government with one religion; but it is God’s will that Satan’s religion and language be confounded till all who will trust Christ do receive Him as Saviour!

Nimrod and his people wanted to unite in rebellion against God (Genesis 1:28, 11:4), but God in His mercy “confounded their language, that they may not understand one another speech. So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the Earth: and they left off to build the city. Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did confound the language of all the Earth ...” (Genesis 11:7-9)

In confounding the "one language" of the whole earth (Genesis 11:1) God not only slowed Nimrod's One World Religion and Government, but the also the technological advances needed to advance them. The One Worlders, however, persist today and God will give the earth over to them briefly during the Tribulation and judge them with great plagues.
